Lest anyone in Malibu question that we’re dealing with an insane person leading Coastal Commission staff, let me call your attention to a quote attributed to Commission Executive Director Peter Douglas in the Los Angeles Times on September 28. Regarding a lawsuit challenging ocean viewsheds as justification for limiting development, Douglas said, “The view of pastoral areas from the sea to the land without human structures intervening is very important.”
By that rationale, just about all of Malibu is “intervening” with the view rights of boaters and fish and heaven knows what else Douglas’ madness can conjure up. After nearly 30 years enjoying a nearly limitless, unaccountable reign over the lives of innocent homeowners, it’s time for this lunatic to go. I urge everyone in Malibu to write your representatives and the governor and demand that Douglas be fired, once and for all.
