Jacob G. Meyer, father of Malibu resident Cindy Meyer Bass, died in Las Vegas on May 1. He was 89.
Meyer was born in Pennsylvania and was a member of a state championship basketball team. After graduating from the Juilliard School of Music and getting a master’s degree at Columbia University, Meyer moved to Los Angeles to teach music. During his educational career, Meyer wrote a series of violin instruction books, recorded an album of violin solo music and attained the position of head of the string music program for the Inglewood Unified School District.
Meyer is survived by his wife Mary Ann; sisters Charlotte Scudder and Mary Janet Meyer; daughters Jana Jae Owens, Cherie Gans, Amy Sandberg and Cindy Bass; stepson Peter Liggitt; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Julie and his first wife, Esther.
A service is planned for this weekend in Malibu.
