The No. 9 Pepperdine men’s water polo team defeated No. 16 Santa Clara 13-5 and No. 14 Air Force to wrap up this weekend’s Kap7 SoCal Invitational with a ninth-place tournament finish.
The Waves were led by RS senior Marko Madaras, who scored four goals against Santa Clara and three goals against Air Force.
The victories followed a 13-12 loss to UC Irvine and a 15-7 win over Pomona-Pitzer on the first day of competition.
Sixteen of the top teams in the nation attended the tournament, which was co-hosted by Pepperdine and rival Loyola Marymount University.
The Waves will resume conference play this coming week, facing No. 2 USC on Oct. 17.
