The Pepperdine men’s basketball team’s 81-76 victory over Pacific on Jan. 7 was made even sweeter by a visit from rapper Drake.
Much to fans’ surprise, the rapper and his entourage entered Firestone Fieldhouse after the game had started and took a seat at the far end of the student section. He cheered for the Waves, was spotted making the university’s “waves up” hand signal and even did his well-known “Hotline Bling” dance for the scoreboard dance camera during timeout.
A press release by Pepperdine Athletics confirmed that Drake attended the game to support his family friend Lamond Murray, Jr., who led the Waves with a career-high of 31 points and 10 rebounds against the Tigers.
Drake visited with the Waves in their locker room, where he led the team breakdown and stated that he would come back and watch the team play Saturday. A video of the statement was soon leaked on Instagram, however, and Drake was nowhere to be found at Saturday’s game against Saint Mary’s.
