Six local teachers were honored last Thursday at the Malibu Optimist Club’s Excellence in Education Awards program. The teachers were honored for their contributions as teachers and mentors to the youth of Malibu.
The teachers who received awards were John Meyer, physical education teacher at Our Lady of Malibu; Pamela Held, first grade teacher at Webster Elementary School; Laura Calek, kindergarten teacher at Point Dume Marine Science School; Jill Matthews, fourthgrade teacher at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School; Melisa Andino, math teacher at Malibu Middle School and Adam Panish, social studies teacher at Malibu High School.
This was the seventh year the local club has awarded Malibu teachers. Each recipient was given a plaque and a $100 gift certificate to Geoffrey’s Malibu.
