King tides—the “highest tides of the year,” according to information from the California Coastal Commission—bring wave action up to a foot higher than normal when they arrive on Malibu’s beaches. King tides splashed on the Malibu Colony from Dec. 13-15, creating dramatic sea spray. 

King tides—which create some of the biggest waves of the year—crashed on Malibu’s shores early this week, splashing up against the houses that line the beach in the Malibu Colony.
