The California Coastal Commission is scheduled to vote next Thursday in Santa Rosa on a California Department of Parks and Recreation plan for habitat restoration and access upgrades to the Nicholas Pond Trail at Leo Carrillo State Park. The local environmental group Wetlands Defense Fund has written a letter to the commission requesting that the item be postponed to June, when the commission meets in Marina del Rey, so more local citizens can attend. The group says the project, which was filed April 19 and is scheduled to be heard May 12, should be delayed because the public has not been given a full 30-days notice. The project would make the trail more accessible for disabled persons, with the construction of two pedestrian bridges and a special parking space. It would also remove and re-route sections of the trail, with approximately 4,262 cubic yards of grading.
