Mindless planning

Why kill the lumberyard? Why cause damage to homeowners?

Dick Van Dyke and Dan Hillman, two of Malibu’s finest citizens, have called attention to the City Council’s carelessness for not reserving deeded space for a lumber yard/hardware store replacement. The results of this mindless mis-planning invites great potential damage to the ecology of Malibu.

Imagine our “leaders” forcing all homeowners to make unwanted drives to Santa Monica and the Valley. Think of the conservation of resources lost as residents pay for more costlier gasoline, drive more highway miles, waste lengthy travel time, subject themselves to more traffic violations, accidents, injury and death to go to home improvement stores miles away from home.

What do you call it when the City Council decides to eliminate our local lumber yard (replacing it with more high priced T-shirt shops) and forces all local citizens to drive uncountable thousands of extra miles per year to patronize home improvement shops elsewhere?

Call it foreseeable idiocy.

Think of saving the environment, valuable family time and millions of dollars.

Let’s change it from “Legacy (Tourist) Park” to “For-the-neighborhood Park,” and leave an honest legacy!
