Pepperdine water polo opens with two wins

The Pepperdine University Waves water polo team began its season with a pair of wins at the 2013 UCLA Invitational on Saturday afternoon at UCLA’s Spieker Aquatic Center. The team earned a 14-8 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, followed by a 26-4 win against La Verne. 

Redshirt sophomore Luke Hewko scored 10 goals, while freshman Christian Bridley recorded six goals. Overall, 15 of 17 Waves who played during the tournament scored at least once. Additionally, goalkeeper Bence Valics made 13 saves. 

Next up, the Waves water polo team takes on local rival Loyola Marymount University on Sept. 14 in the PCH Cup at Loyola’s Burns Recreation Center.
