Hiker Injured by Fallen Boulder in Malibu

Crews work to clear a boulder from Rambla Pacifico on Thursday morning, after a rockslide injured a female hiker.

[1:45 p.m.] The injured hiker, a 57-year-old female, was reported in critical condition, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.


A female hiker was struck by a large boulder while hiking along Rambla Pacifico in eastern Malibu Thursday morning, Jan. 17.

The hiker suffered a head injury and was treated by the Los Angeles County Fire Department before being transported to a nearby trauma center, according to information provided by Malibu Search and Rescue (MSAR).

The boulder, which fell across the roadway along with other rocks, was cleared with the help of MSAR and various other rescue organizations who have been on standby in Malibu during the ongoing rain event.

Search and rescue teams in Malibu during the week included Altadena Mountain Rescue Team, Sierra Madre Search and Rescue, Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue Team, Montrose Search and Rescue Team, and San Dimas Search and Rescue.
