A DUI and driver’s license checkpoint will take place on Friday between 7:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Malibu. Officers will be checking drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment, as well as making sure they are properly licensed.

The checkpoint is being conducted by the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station and is funded by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety to the City of Malibu.

“DUI checkpoints have been an essential part of the phenomenal reduction in DUI deaths that we witnessed since 2006 in California,” Office of Traffic Safety Director Christopher J. Murphy said, “but since the tragedy of DUI accounts for nearly one third of traffic fatalities, Malibu needs the high visibility enforcement and public awareness that checkpoints provide.”
