The Malibu Rotary Club’s annual Middle and High School singing competition took place at Stauffer Chapel at Pepperdine University Feb. 28.

In the high school division, Martha Thatcher won first prize for singing “Pulled,” second place went to Kylie Cassone, who sang “Take it All,” and Skylar Steinberg, who sang “Almost Lover,” came in third.

In the middle school division, first prize went to Timmy Thames, who sang “Hallelujah,” Violet Finn won second for singing “Maybe This Time” and Isabella Thatcher placed third and sang “Two Marionettes.”

First place winners were awarded $250, second place received $150 and third place received $100. Additionally, the winner of the high school division was sponsored by the Malibu Rotary Club to compete for a possible $1,000 scholarship in the Rotary District 5280 Music Competition.

All of the winning students are in Amy Loch’s choral classes at Malibu Middle School and Malibu High School. Joellen McHaughton accompanied all the singers on piano. Performers were judged on vocals, presentation and style by a panel of the Rotary Club members chaired by Geoff Ortiz.
