As a Malibu resident and longtime water conservationist, the recent press item and flashing street signs about the urgent need for Malibu residents to conserve water has me seeing red. We have the highest per capita instant sod population, biggest mansions with the most toilets and the king of water usage himself, the mega billionaire, Jerry Perenchio, and his famous ultra putting green built on parched land. Oh, and don’t forget those legions of gardeners hosing off the sidewalks and streets because the owners do not know what a rake looks like. My neighbors just planted about 30 high maintenance trees, and up and down the block non- native, water sucking flowers and bushes are being planted at high speed to look glorious all summer. So much neighborly water has flowed on my brown land, that it is beginning to turn green again. Don’t bring this stupid request to my door. Talk to the realtors, city council and developers who can’t wait to put another ugly mansion with faucets galore in my neighborhood.
