The Malibu High School Junior Optimist Club recently concluded a successful drive to send care packages to U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
Students collected more than 15 boxes of goods, $500 in donations and more than 100 individual letters of support from their friends, family and teachers at Malibu High School. The club’s goal is to have the troops receive the packages in time for Christmas.
“Our club is overjoyed with the tremendous response and support of both the students and faculty,” Junior Optimist Club president Juliana Ball said. “The troops receiving these packages will definitely know that Malibu does care.”
The drive began with a schoolwide assembly featuring Malibu High graduate and U.S. Marine Sgt. Robert Jennings Spangle, who shared the hardships he and his fellow Marines faced in Afghanistan.
