Malibu’s Only Local Daily News  … from Radio Malibu  …. F-M 99 point 1 K B U U. Good morning … I’m Hans Laetz reporting.

A circle of 25 people stood quietly on the side of Pacific Coast Highway at the western end of Malibu yesterday evening.  They mourned Omar Payera … a 23 year old father of two little girls … viciously stabbed to death at County Line Beach.  And the same day, a dead woman is discovered in the PCH palisades at Santa Monica. Details:  https://www.radiomalibu.net/father-of-2-mourned-at-countyline/

Officials at the new utility cooperatives that has taken over supplying electricity to most of Malibu see their rates are going up because Southern California Edison has raised their rates.  Also … the state of California is making the new energy cooperative pay four past blunders made by S C E.  Details:  https://www.radiomalibu.net/rate-hikes-match-edison/

California Governor Gavin Newsom on Friday released details about a bailout bill for the shareholders and customers of Southern California Edison … and two other investor owned  utilities.  Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/21-billion-bailout-sce-pge-sdge/

Malibu residents … or at least some of them … we’re either alarmed or annoyed by hovering helicopters over the last three days.

The red helicopter had been rented by Southern California Edison.

High tech cameras and computers were onboard … taking details pictures of overhead power lines.

Why the sudden attention???

Two reasons.

First the California Public Utilities Commission and California legislature have ordered in-depth inspections and repairs for all overhead power poles headlines tier 3 hi-fi risk areas.

Malibu is ground zero for that.

Secondly … the California Public Utilities Commission has given Edison the green light to spend what it takes to do that job.

Edison has established a separate account for the work … it will be fully reimbursed by ratepayers for the extra expenses … and we’ll make it’s customary 11% guaranteed profit on that.

Malibu’s city council has an incredible amount of work on the agenda today.  Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/items-for-council-tonight/

You are listening to the latest news from Radio Malibu … F-M 99 point 1 K B U U.  ((( time  ))))

It appears that the annual fourth of July parade on Point Dume may be another victim of the Woolsey Fire.

The parades organizer has told his neighbors at several obstacles may prevent the annual event from taking place this Independence Day.

First and foremost is the fact that debris removal trucks may be operating on the holiday … as crews continue to Holloway burn down houses a rapid schedule.

Road closure permits maybe unavailable.

The traditional staging grounds at the Point Dume elementary school are not available due to construction.

And a large number of Malibu residents have fled the area … some until their houses are rebuilt … some maybe forever.

Residents are still talking about what to do on social media.

Longtime parade organizer Doug Randall says it appears that this years parade will not happen.

But he says … he will be back.
