Road reopened after gas main break shuts down PCH

[Update, 11:55 a.m.] Authorities have lifted an evacuation order and reopened both sides of PCH after traffic was shut down for more than one hour following a gas line break near Carbon Canyon Road. 

Both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane between Carbon Canyon and Sweetwater Mesa roads were reopened around 11:15 a.m. after gas company workers were able to shut down the leaking main. One westbound lane is expected to remain closed for two more hours as crews work to repair the leak. 

Fire authorities also lifted an evacuation order for 30 residences and 20 businesses in the area. 

[Update, 10:40 a.m.] Approximately 30 residences and 20 businesses have been evacuated by the Los Angeles County Fire Department as a precaution, according to sheriff’s.

[Original post] A gas main break has shut down traffic in both directions on Pacific Coast Highway near Carbon Canyon Road, according to Sgt. John Prince of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

PCH is expected to remain closed for 2-3 hours. Eastbound traffic is stopped at Carbon Canyon Road and westbound traffic is stopped in the 22400 block of PCH.
