Some of you, as I am, may be feeling bereft over the loss of our bookstore, Diesel, a wonderful literary haven whose owners brought our community of book lovers together, both old and young. I am wondering if, as citizens, we could bring pressure on the landlords to offer up a site at a decent rent. Surely they are making enough money on Ralph Lauren, 7 jeans, Maddison, Kitson, Tory Burch etc. to allow us to have a real bookstore, or anything, frankly, that’s not an exorbitantly expensive chain store for luxury goods.
Diesel provided Malibu with a soul, and a heart. It brought the community together. We still have a chance, if Diesel can find a good location with decent and fair rent, for this treasured community resource to stay.
