Malibu man sued for Empire State Building stunt

Jeb Ray Corliss IV, the Malibu man who attempted to parachute off the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, had a lawsuit filed against him by building officials.

While the building officials said the $12 million lawsuit was a message to discourage Corliss and anybody else who planned to do a similar stunt, Corliss’ attorney told the Associated Press in a recent interview that the suit was a public relations move.

Corliss, then host of the Discovery Channel show “Stunt Junkies,” walked up to the top of the building with a helmet fitted with a camera. Then, he ripped off a disguise that included a fat suit, gray wig and a latex mask and climbed the 10-foot security fence around the 86th-floor observation deck. But before he could jump, security guards and police officers reached through the fence and handcuffed him. The Discovery Channel later fired Corliss.
