get out
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) held a hearing on May 23 at the Performing Arts Center in Oxnard. The hearing was called to gather data on what effects the various types of water and water temperatures would or could affect or endanger sea life if BHP Billiton’s LNG factory were given a permit to process LNG offshore of Oxnard and Malibu.
I believe the citizens of Ventura County and other interested parties were treated like second class citizens. First, the only notice of this hearing was a small ad placed on April 21 in the classified section of the Ventura County Star. Second, there were no other communications or information on this hearing anywhere after April 21. We citizens were not properly notified. I say this because the City of Oxnard had to know the hearing was taking place because they had to arrange for EPA to use the Performing Arts Center. In addition, the hearing was called for 1 to 4 p.m., which meant many citizens were left out because they were working.
I also wonder why there was no mention of the hearing in the Star? A little bird told me that the Star was also not aware or prepared to cover this hearing. Come on, city fathers and staff, when something as important as this comes around, get the word out. TV channels could have been utilized to notify the citizens among other things. In addition, even though the city is on record opposing this LNG terminal, no one from the city spoke to this subject.
