ABC has purchased a new drama project co-created by Malibu native Rob Lowe that is based on Lowe’s years growing up in Malibu, Deadline Hollywood reports.

The new drama, to be called “The Point,” will revolve around the lives of a single mother and her two teenage sons who move from Indiana to Malibu in the summer of 1976.

“The Byrd family must navigate the cross currents of colorful personalities, power land grabs, dead friends and lovers, cheating hearts, and seismic cultural changes that will transform Malibu from a quirky middle-class beach town to the iconic coastal destination of today’s rich and famous,” Deadline Hollywood reports.

The new drama is expected to draw from Lowe’s own life. The “West Wing” and “Parks and Recreation” actor moved from Ohio to the Point Dume area of Malibu in the late 1970s as a teenager with his mom and brother, as recorded in his 2011 memoir “Stories I Only Tell My Friends.”

The drama was co-created by Lowe and former “West Wing” executive co-producer Kevin Falls, who is the co-creator/executive producer of the TNT series “Franklin & Bash.”Â
