Ever wonder how your neighbor or friend always seems to have traffic, flooding or beach advisory information faster than you do?
It could be that they have signed up for the City of Malibu’s website notifications, which provide information on a host of topics from public meeting agendas to mudslides.
Residents or those who work in Malibu and would like to stay informed may visit malibucity.org/news to opt in to notifications from the city’s alert center, including beach advisories, emergencies, public health advisories, traffic advisories, utility advisories and weather advisories. In addition to alerts, residents may wish to register for community calendar updates or public meeting information.
These alerts can either go to your email or via SMS message to a cell phone, and anyone who signs up can opt back out of alerts at any time.
Though not all traffic delays are posted via website notifications, the city attempts to post “traffic advisories for incidents that have been verified by a law enforcement agency, involve a lane closure on Pacific Coast Highway or a major road lasting longer than 30 minutes and will impact mobility for the community.”
This program is not associated with the Everbridge Disaster Notification system, which calls landline numbers and some cell phones with pressing emergency alerts. That system can be accessed by signing up at malibucity.org/disasternotifications.
