Longtime Malibu resident Loretta Jean Barrera died peacefully in her sleep July 3 at the age of 64.
Barrera was born in Lyons, Kan. on Aug. 7, 1947 and moved to Malibu in 1974 with her husband Joe and their five children. Shortly after their arrival, Barrera began working at the Malibu Park Junior High cafeteria and later worked as a retail clerk at Mayfair market.
“Loretta loved her family and friends very much and she held a special place in her heart for everyone she touched,” Barrera’s family wrote. “Loretta’s true gift was her pure kindness that came within the interaction of people she came across.”
