Nuclear threats

Reading the article on the front page of last week’s The Malibu Times regarding the possibility of Tsunami debris reaching Malibu within the next one to three years [“Tsunami debris could reach Malibu within year,” March 15, 2012], I was reminded that the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident is an ongoing tragedy releasing massive amounts of radioactivity into the environment.

It also is a reminder that Malibu is located between San Onofre and Diablo Canyon nuclear plants, both riddled with safety issues: aging, leaking and deteriorating facilities. The plants not only omit radiation into the Pacific Ocean and atmosphere as part of their daily operating procedures, but are built near earthquake fault lines and have highly radioactive spent fuel stored on site, which poses an ominous treat to our children and future generations health and safety.

If you would like to read some scientific reports, Google “nuclear free planet.”
