Janet Swartout died at home on March 3 after a nearly two-year battle with lung cancer. She was 58.

Swartout worked in the front office of Point Dume Marine Science Elementary school for more than 12 years. She was an artist, bird enthusiast and gourmet cook. Friends and family said she brought a sunny disposition and passionate dedication to everything and every one.

Swartout is survived by her husband of nearly 25 years, Bill; her children, Robin and David; her mother, Dorotha Petersen and her two sisters, Carlene Chew and Denise Giusti.

A celebration of Swartout’s life will take place on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Point Dume Marine Science Elementary School, located at 6955 Fernhill Drive. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up, and more information can be found at www.caringbridge.org/visit/janetswartout .
