Hundreds of volunteers, including Pepperdine students, staff and alumni, plus Civil Air Patrol, United States Air Force Auxiliary members, came together Saturday morning to raise 2,977 flags for Pepperdine University’s 11th annual Waves of Flags display. The memorial honors those who perished on Sept. 11, 2001, during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Each flag represents one of those killed in the attacks that day, with international flags flying for those who hailed from other nations.

Visitors are invited to walk through rows of flags, take photographs, sit on the grass, meditate, reflect and pray.

The 11th annual Pepperdine 9/11 Waves of Flags will be on display until Monday, Sept. 24, on Pepperdine’s Malibu campus, at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road.
