Chef Matt Zubrod of Malibu & Vine Bar and Grille has teamed up with nonprofit organization Farming Independence to create “meables,” a new baked cookie line to raise funds for the organization, which provides programs, support and services to people with developmental disabilities. The name of the cookies, “meables,” stands for “me ables.”

Participants from Farming Independence’s “Go Wild” Saturday program visited the local chef to watch and learn about making and packing the baked goods July 26. A few days later, the organization brought the cookies to the farmer’s market in Westlake Village, where the popular new treats were gone by the end of the day.

“Chef Matt has kindly offered to manufacture the cookies for Farming Independence while we raise the money needed to open our own bakery,” Sheila Mayfield, president of Farming Independence, said. “Our mission is to teach job skills and create individualized jobs for those with autism and other special needs and Chef Matt is giving us an incredible opportunity to make our dream a reality.”
