Mob boss fugitive arrested in Santa Monica

Boston mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger was captured in Santa Monica Wednesday night by the FBI after 16 years on the run. The 81-year-old Bulger was on the FBI’s list of “Ten Most Wanted” criminals for his alleged role in 19 murders. He had been on the run since 1994. According to media reports, Bulger was living in The Princess Eugenia, an apartment building on 3rd street in Santa Monica. Bulger has been the subject of several books and was the inspiration for Martin Scorcese’s 2006 film “The Departed.”
