NatureBridge to Hold Third Annual Hike-A-Thon on May 3
Bring the family out for a fun and educational hike at Will Rogers State Historic Park
NatureBridge, the largest residential environmental education partner of the National Park Service, is holding their third annual Hike-A-Thon in the Santa Monica Mountains on May 3 from 8 to 11 a.m. Community members, teachers, parents and students in the Greater Los Angeles area will hike the 2.25 mile Inspiration Point Loop at Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades to raise critically-needed funds and draw attention to the need for environmental education in the Santa Monica Mountains and Channel Islands. The purpose of this annual event is two-fold: to raise funds and awareness of every child’s need for environmental literacy.
“The Santa Monica Mountains and Channel Islands are a truly unique ecosystem,” said long-time NatureBridge Board member and community supporter Paul Culberg. “They deserve to be protected and shared with the nearby urban population. Educating our young people is the only way we can hope to preserve this stunning community for future generations.”
NatureBridge has been teaching hands-on science in nature’s classroom to over 1 million children and adults for 42 years. NatureBridge customizes three to five-day programs for grades 4-12 and single-day programs for grades K-3 to complement classroom curriculum, which aligns with state science standards.
“Environmental literacy is critical to stemming the growing tide of environmental, economic, and educational challenges we face,” said NatureBridge’s Southern California Director Iliana Tavera. “Students who participate in our transformative programs improve academically, while gaining leadership and interpersonal skills. With community support for the NatureBridge Hike-A-Thon, we can help more children and teachers connect with nature right in our own backyard.”
