Malibu resident Daria Kobayashi-Ritch, a junior at New Roads High School, hosted her first photography exhibit two weeks ago at a loft in Santa Monica’s downtown area. The exhibit was born from an independent study course offered by the high school, in which Kobayashi-Ritch researched photographers Julia Cameron Nash, Paolo Roversi and Irving Penn, and wrote papers about their work and their personal histories. She then shot portraiture in the style of each photographer, working with various cameras, lighting techniques, exposures and printing methods.
“I based my independent studies project on photography in order to further my understanding of the history and artistic capabilities of this medium,” Kobayashi-Ritch said in a recent press release. “Photography is a passion of mine and what I hope to study in college and pursue as my career.”
