Great editorial, Arnold (“A nation of wimps” from the Nov. 12 edition of The Malibu Times). Not certain, however, how such sentiments will play to Malibu’s liberal elite, where our soft and sensitive approach to child-rearing begins with making everyone a winner athletic contests.
Is it that we as a people have lived too long at peace? Along with most of my classmates, I served during the Vietnam War. There was nothing kind or gentle about that world. This still pertains to present day reality, after witnessing last Friday’s Paris debacle.
Perhaps things have been too good for too long, and we as parents have been remiss — too much concerned with shielding our children from the brutal struggle for survival that exists out there. Perhaps, in the end, they shall not be prepared. And, as regrettable, perhaps we as a nation shall not be prepared.
