Those interested in working as a California State Parks seasonal ocean lifeguard can try out for the position this Sunday, March 6, at Sycamore Cove in Point Mugu State Park at 9 a.m.
The tryout entails 1,000-yard open water swim with a time limit of 20 minutes and a continuous 200-yard run, 400-yard swim, 200-yard run with a time limit of 10 minutes.Â
Applicants who pass the physical tests will qualify for an appraisal interview for entry into the California State Park Seasonal Lifeguard Training program.Â
Candidates must possess a valid California Driver License with a good record and demonstrate physical strength and endurance, willingness to work on weekends and holidays and the visual and hearing acuity necessary to detect a victim in the water.Â
Candidates should plan to arrive 60 minutes prior to the swim. Photo identification is required. Candidates are encouraged to bring a swimsuit, towel, food, water and clothes for an interview if qualifications are met.Â
Wetsuits, swim caps and goggles are permitted for the tryout swim but are not allowed during the Seasonal Lifeguard Training Program.
