Los Angeles County firefighters rushed to extinguish a small spot fire Monday evening that burned about 1/8 of an acre of brush in the Las Flores Canyon area of Malibu, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.
The fire was reported around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Las Flores Canyon Road and Rambla Pacifico, according to Supervising Fire Dispatcher Ed Dickett. The fire broke out “just below” the County Fire Department’s Camp 8, Dickett said, which is set up above Malibu to help in the case of possible wildfires. As of 6:30 p.m., crews remained on scene mopping up the fire and there was no further fire threat, Dickett said.
Teams from Malibu’s station 70 and 71 assisted in the response.Â
