The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station is planning to conduct a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint this Friday between 7:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m., according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department press release. The checkpoint will take place “at an undisclosed location within the city limits of Malibu,” the release states.

Drivers passing through the checkpoint will be contacted by officers for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Officers will also be checking for proper licensing.

On March 15, two people were arrested in Malibu on suspicion of driving under the influence at a DUI checkpoint at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and John Tyler Drive. Authorities screened more than 1,000 cars and tested six drivers for sobriety between 7:30 p.m. that evening (a Friday) and 3:30 the following morning. Sheriff’s deputies also impounded four cars and cited eight people for license-related violations.

According to the press release, drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension and insurance increases, coupled with fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
