The son of Sheryl Leach, creator of the “Barney & Friends” series, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the 2013 shooting of a neighbor in Malibu.
Patrick Kearns Leach, 29, was charged with assault with a semi-automatic firearm, shooting from a motor vehicle and various charges of causing great bodily injury, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The charges stemmed from an incident in Malibu on Jan. 9, 2013 when Leach drove up to a neighbor’s house and began arguing with him about trespassing. Leach then fired several rounds from a semi-automatic firearm, striking the neighbor once in the chest, said Deputy District Attorney Brenda Lee.
Leach fled the scene and was later found with weapons and body armor when police arrested him.
The Malibu resident pleaded no contest to the allegations on May 28 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison on July 2.
