Nathan Fagan, a 5th grader at Webster Elementary School excels in swimming. He has qualified for the 2011 Junior Olympics in freestyle and breaststroke.
Nathan has been swimming since he was two years old, and has done so competitively for one and a half years.
He practices four times a week with Tsunami, a local swim team, and spends his additional time on homework and hanging out with his friends.
Nathan said he loves to compete in swimming and likes to challenge himself by improving both his technique and time to complete a lap. His biggest challenge thus far has been trying to improve his strokes and the time it takes to qualify as he competes in a number of categories, including freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke, individual medley and group medley.
Nathan’s favorite swimming moment was when he competed in the Western Regionals last year in Las Vegas, as he had the chance to compete against athletes from a number of states while at the same time enjoying some cool shows in the city.
He will attend Malibu High School next year where he will join his 13-year-old brother, who is currently in 7th grade. Nathan’s favorite movie is “Taken,” with Liam Neeson.
