Viewpoint School, along with two other Southern California schools, qualified for the World VEX Robotics Competition scheduled for April 2009. This is the first year Viewpoint’s Engineering and Robotics Team has entered a robot-building competition. Over 1,000 teams in 13 countries are participating in qualifying tournaments that will send 200 teams to the championship round in Dallas, Texas.

The members of this year’s 10-person Engineering and Robotics Team include Viewpoint senior and Malibuite Nathan Bartley. In the regional competition at Granada Hills Charter High School, Viewpoint qualified for the final round and chose to be in a coalition with Van Nuys Charter High School and the California Academy of Mathematics and Sciences. All three schools have a chance to compete at the World Championships. Viewpoint’s team is currently seeking corporate sponsorship to help defray the costs of refining their robot and traveling to Dallas.
