The Pepperdine University Waves men’s basketball team earned a 60-57 road win over rival Loyola Marymount Lions in the “PCH Cup” rivalry game on Jan. 24.

After overcoming an early deficit, the Waves held on late to achieve victory against their West Coast rival.

Pepperdine (10-9 overall) shot 45.8 percent and held the Lions (8-12 overall) to 36.1 percent during the game. The Waves trailed by eight points during the first half, but went into halftime with a 37-33 lead. Neither team scored during the final two minutes of the game, and LMU missed two potential game-tying shots in the final minute, securing Pepperdine’s win.

Waves sophomore guard Jordan Baker led the team in scoring with 21 points, tying his season high.

“Any win’s a good win, a road win is even better, and a road win over your rival is the best yet,” Pepperdine coach Marty Wilson said. “We had been playing well the last couple weeks but not getting results, and it’s a great relief to get this one.”
