California Highway Patrol officers chased a vehicle at high speed up the Pacific Coast Highway through Malibu Saturday evening in the final leg of an odyssey that took them across LA County, along PCH and culminated in Ventura County.

At 8:23 p.m., CHP officers used a spike strip at Hueneme Rd. to disable the suspect’s vehicle and take him into custody, ending a chase that had wound through the Los Angeles area for over an hour.

According to CHP officer Tony Polizzi, the chase went from the 60 Freeway in the Island Empire and up the length of the Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Monica to Port Hueneme Saturday evening, culminating on PCH at Hueneme Rd.

“We received a call from Inland Division at 7:13[p.m.],” Polizzi stated, “black Ford mustang, westbound Freeway 60 at Reservoir St.”

According to Polizzi, an officer with the Southern Division in LA County, at 7:13 p.m., the LA County CHP received notice from the Inland Empire CHP that the chase would be entering their jurisdiction. In total, 14 CHP units from both divisions were involved in the pursuit and successful apprehending of the suspect.

Despite reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour, it appears the chase did not cause any property damage or injury.

“I didn’t hear of him striking another vehicle or anything else happening,” Polizzi said, adding, “It looked like a peaceful ending.”

The suspect, a hispanic male adult, was taken into custody at the scene.

Further details about the chase have not been made known by law enforcement.

Malibu/Lost Hills sheriffs were not directly involved in the chase or in taking the suspect into custody.
