The National Weather Service is predicting hazardous ocean conditions this week — Thursday through Monday.

From Thursday evening, Jan. 19, through Monday evening, Jan. 23, the NWS predicts “high surf to area beaches … with a chance of much larger … damaging surf late Friday through Saturday.” Surf is expected to reach up to 15 feet or higher on Friday and Saturday.

Coastal erosion and coastal flooding is possible, the agency reported, and “much larger waves may occur without warning … which can wash people off their feet in the surf zone or off of rocks and jetties.”

Rain is forecasted in the Malibu area off-and-on from Wednesday afternoon through Monday night.

Starting around 4 p.m. Wednesday, the NWS predicts rain will be “likely.” The chance of precipitation goes up to 100 percent Wednesday night, with a possible thunderstorm after 10 p.m. Another thunderstorm is predicted before 10 a.m. Thursday. Wind gusts could reach 20 mph.

Another thunderstorm may occur on Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., with showers and a possible thunderstorm after 4 p.m. as well.

Saturday is predicted to be mostly sunny, but another rain shower is predicted for Saturday evening, which will continue through Monday night.
