The California Coastal Commission on Thursday will hold a hearing to decide whether to approve a local coastal program (LCP) governing future development in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The proposed LCP, which has drawn criticism from some stakeholders over what they see as restrictions on equestrian uses and agriculture, will be debated by the 12-member commission at its regular meeting in Santa Barbara.
The LCP runs adjacent to Malibu city limits, covering unincorporated areas of the Santa Monica Mountains within LA County’s coastal zone — an area of about 80 square miles. The plan would make the county the sole authority on development and construction projects in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The all-day meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Hyatt Santa Barbara at 1111 East Cabrillo Blvd., Santa Barbara. It may also be viewed online at www.coastal.ca.gov.
