Underage alcohol consumption crackdown

The Lost Hill’s Sheriff’s Department will be conducting an undercover operation to crackdown on businesses selling alcohol to minors. An exact date is not released. During a selected night, an 18-year-old or 19-year-old youngster will be sent into a bar, restaurant or other business to attempt to buy alcohol without even a fake identification card. If the person is successful with the purchase, the business will be issued a citation. Sgt. Phil Morris said in past situations, they usually go through about 20 businesses, and perhaps two are cited. It is usually about a $750 to $1,000 fine for selling alcohol to minors. The fine gets higher after each violation. The sheriff’s report is forwarded to the state Alcoholic Beverage Control. It has the ability to suspend or even pull a business’ liquor license.

Septic system approvals available

The city has announced that onsite wastewater treatment system approvals are now available via e-mail. Only those issued since 1994 can be accessed.

One can go to the city’s Web site at www.ci.malibu.ca.us, and click on the proper section. A pdf file can be downloaded that lists all the properties with approvals. After finding the address listing, one can e-mail the city to request a copy. The list will be updated once per month. The city reminds people that an approval does not necessarily mean the system was actually installed. That information can be obtained by viewing the street file at the public counter in City Hall.
