Malibu Community Alliance (MCA) is extremely gratified that on March 23, a unanimous City Council approved the drafting of an ordinance that would consolidate its municipal elections with November, even year elections (hopefully by 2016). Previously, municipal elections were held in April and there was significantly less voter turnout for these local elections than for those held in November. This move will irrefutably result in greater voter participation in our local elections. It will also likely result in an eventual cost reduction of our elections and be more convenient to the electorate. MCA would like to congratulate the City Council, and particularly Skylar Peak who put it on the agenda and worked for its passage. Election consolidation has been a core issue for MCA as it furthers MCA’s goals of greater transparency and participation in our local government.Â
