Preying field for lions

Gary Peterson wrote in your Aug. 29 Opinion section in “Lion at the Gate” that there is a problem with lions in Santa Monica Mountains attacking dogs, cats (and I’m sure the inevitable children). It’s selfish to want to move the big cats rather than let them wander freely in open unfenced areas as Sara (Wan) and some of the (California Coastal) commissioners would like to see. But I have a compromise solution that would kill two birds with one stone. Why not move the lions to Bluffs Park when the CCC rips out our children’s baseball fields and converts it back to weeds, native shrubs and fuel for our fires?

As most of us know, Sara and her gang have been refusing those that live in beach homes the right to protect their homes by repairing bulkheads because they want the coastline “in its natural state.” Because of this, if the commissioners get their way, there will be fewer homes remaining below Bluffs Park and remaining homeowners could provide the right balance of fodder (with their children and pets) for the wild lions. A natural solution and a test of the theory, “survival of the fittest.”

Some of those that have seen Sara’s home and landscape of nonnative plants and unpermitted structures believe that there should be a separate standard for her because she knows what is best for us. Of course there are many like me who think she doesn’t have a clue as to what protecting the environment is all about and should resign from the commission and take her comrade and voting partner, Pedro Nava, with her.
