Marcia Hanscom of the Wetlands Defense Fund (WDF) accepts a $2,500 check from Malibu resident and surfer Athena Shlien at a fundraising event at the home of Malibu Colony resident Carol Moss. The money is going toward the WDF’s effort against a project at Malibu Lagoon. The project was recently approved 10-0 by the California Coastal Commission, and is supported by most major environmental organizations. They say it will improve the lagoon’s water quality and make it more livable for various species. The WDF and other opponents do not like that the project includes the use of bulldozers, and say it will harm the lagoon and the species that currently live or visit there.
