The nation’s first cell phone recycling bill was approved by the state Assembly. The bill would require cell phone retailers to provide customers with a convenient cost-free system to reuse or recycle unwanted cell phones. It was drafted by Assemlymember Fran Pavley because she said cell phones pose a threat to the environment. She said their circuit boards contain harmful toxins that can be released into the air and water when burned or buried in landfills. The bill will move on to state Senate.

The CHP also reminds residents to have their vehicles inspected to make sure they are in good condition and to carry plenty of drinking water in case of emergencies.
