Authorities say the cause of a brush fire that burned approximately one acre at Encinal Canyon Road Saturday is “suspicious in nature” and continues to be under investigation.
Investigators for the county sheriff’s and fire departments are trying to determine what sparked the fire at 3210 Encinal Canyon Road, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesperson Rosemary Vivero. The fire, which began around 1 p.m., burned brush but did not result in injuries or dollar loss to property, Vivero said. Firefighters achieved knockdown at approximately 2:43 p.m., a City of Malibu official said Saturday.
The Encinal brush fire was one of two fires in Malibu on Saturday. A second fire, at 29500 Heathercliff Road, burned a reported 1.5 acres of brush before it was knocked down at approximately 3 p.m.
