"I woke up and my oldest daughter Sophia, who's 6, she wanted to make me a card. So we went downstairs and she took out art supplies. She cut out a beautiful heart and drew a picture of us, very colorful, and she wrote a very nice note. Without asking me how to spell anything! And before that she surprised me and had cleaned up her room and made her bed without me asking! Then my 3-year-old Milla saw what Sophia had done and attempted to do the same thing, big mess! She cleaned up all the markers, I was so proud of her, and that was her version of a Mother's Day present. My six-month-old baby Dasha was an angel as usual. Then we went as a family to my parents' house for a Mother's Day barbecue with my brother and my sister and her kids. We made a whole day of it! My husband Harrison's job was to not complain, not tell me it's time to go. My present was he had to sit there and enjoy it like everyone else and not tell me, 'I want to go home!'"
We asked people around town how they celebrated Mother’s Day this year. Check out what they had to say in the photos.
“I had a very unusual Mother’s Day! I picked up my 16-year-old daughter and she had flowers, balloons and chocolates for me! We went to the Venice Boardwalk and I had a Tarot card reading, had lunch at the Sidewalk Cafe and I got my nose pierced!”
“I went out with my sisters and my mom. We went out to one of my sister’s house and we did a little BBQ. It was the first Mother’s Day for my sister, a little boy in our family, first nephew, so that was nice. My mom actually got a little frame of a picture of her baby grandson with his handprints. It was nice to spend some time together. [It’s] her first grandson, and the first baby boy in the family because we’re all girls.”
“My daughter Michelle came over and she made me her specialty, which is French toast, and it was absolutely delicious! She spent the day with us, we really had a nice time. We hung out and talked, stayed at the breakfast table for a long time. It was actually brunch, it was just nice to see her. I don’t get to see her that often and I love when she makes that brunch for me because it’s my favorite. It was really nice. And Izzy, my dog, was with us too!”
“I celebrated with two of my daughters and four of my grandchildren. Yes, and we went to a café, Marmalade, it’s across the street from a candy store. So that was great for the grandchildren, they loved that and so did I, although I didn’t partake of any candy, but I did eat my dinner. My favorite part was being with my two daughters Kathy and Mary, and their families.”
“I celebrated with all of my children, Lauren, Matthew, Michael and my husband David, bringing me coffee and breakfast in bed, followed by an all-day girls’ soft ball tournament in Culver City. We had a great time!”
