Our Lady of Malibu School’s fourth-graders finished their California Mission social studies unit with a California Mission Period event. Parents and classmates were invited to view homemade mission models and listen to research presentations.
The mission unit began with a field trip to La Purisima Mission in Lompoc, Calif., where students were able to participate in tasks and activities that were performed at the mission when it was operating. Students then learned about the 21 missions in California through a simulation game that included learning how to travel by ship around Cape Horn. The students then selected one mission to research in depth and presented information at the concluding event.
