On May 1, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Deputy Greg Smorodinsky won the prestigious best overall “Top Gun” award in the California State wide “Best of the West” law enforcement shooting competition. The competition tested marksmanship, as well as tactical skills, with a variety of law enforcement weapons. The event was held at the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department shooting range in Northern California. Competitors included reserve peace officers from throughout California.

Deputy Smorodinsky is a sworn volunteer Reserve Deputy Sheriff and Emergency Medical Technician assigned to the world class Malibu Search and Rescue Team. He volunteers his time, along with other Lost Hills Station Reserve Deputies, responding to emergencies involving vehicle crashes in remote canyons, searches for lost and injured hikers, as well as rescues and tactical operations in mountainous terrain.
