Parents, family and friends gather to watch “Firebird” performed by students of Nikki White’s Firebird Camp.

Miss Nikki’s Firebird Camp dancers performed a recital at Dance Star studio on Saturday morning. Family and friends gathered to watch the girls, ages 4-6, showcase what they learned during their eight-week Pre-Ballet/Creative Movement class with dance instructor Nikki White.

“The dancers learned about the story, music and characters from the Russian folk tale/ballet ‘Firebird,’’ Nikki explained. “They wore red feathered masks and danced with their red ‘feather’ to tell the story, as well as memorizing a spoken story that they told the audience before they danced.”

Dancing since the age of three, Nikki’s background for the performing arts includes studying at Pacific Northwest Ballet School and National Ballet School of Canada, and dancing as the principal dancer in San Francisco for over 10 years. She married dancer Ethan White.

The two came to Los Angeles and became one of the top three finalists on Paula Abdul’s dance show, which led to performing as a duo at special events, TV shows and more. They were one of eight couples selected in the world to be invited to the Blackpool Dance Festival in England in 2014.

In Nikki’s class, children learn basic forms of movement and ballet through imaginative games, songs and music.

“I like the music because it is fast and fun, and teacher Nikki is really fun,” Firebird Camp student Nell Brickman shared.
